Dr. Natalie Fousekis - The Real Story of Women in Politics in

Southern California

Our speaker on January 25th is Dr. Natalie Fousekis, who will tell us the story of the ups and downs of women who have participated in the political process in Southern California.  Natalie is an Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for Oral and Public History at California State University, Fullerton.  She specializes in modern U.S. History, grassroots politics, women’s history, and oral history.    Her current major project is entitled “Women, Politics, and Activism Project,” and will entail 145 oral history interviews with Southern California women activists and former elected officials.

Natalie’s book, Demanding Child Care: Women’s Activism and the Politics of Welfare, 1940-1971, examines the grassroots movement waged by mothers and educators to preserve California’s public child care program.

As we enter the political season, it’s time to get a perspective on the role of women in our local political process.
